A top-down photograph captures a collection of six books arranged on a rustic, worn wooden table with blue and brown paint. The titles include "How to Prune Fruit Trees" by R. Sanford Martin, "Shop Class as Soulcraft" by Matthew Crawford, "Pruning & Training" by the American Horticultural Society, "Lunar & Biodynamic Gardening" by Matt Jackson, "Regenerative Agriculture" by Richard Perkins, and "The Bee Book" by DK.

Program Overview

  • Theme/Topic: The Circular Farm: Rotational Grazing to Closed-Loop Systems
  • Age Range: For adults
  • When: TBD
  • Time: The session begins at 4:00 pm on Sunday and closes at 11 am the following Sunday
  • Cost: $1050

This one-week intensive on Regenerative Farming & Resilient Systems provides a hands-on exploration of vital climate-smart agricultural practices. Participants will engage in a curriculum designed to build ecological literacy and practical homesteading skills.

Core Curriculum Pillars

  • Rotational Grazing & Soil fertility: Learn the art of managed rotational grazing by moving livestock between paddocks to mimic natural herd patterns. Participants will analyze how this practice prevents overgrazing, boosts pasture productivity, and turns soil into a powerful carbon sink.
  • Edible Food Forests & Beneficial Hedgerows: Participants will study agroforestry and permaculture principles through multi-layered food forests. Focus will be on establishing beneficial hedgerows that serve as "living fences," providing pollinator habitats, windbreaks, and supplemental forage for animals while increasing farm-wide biodiversity.
  • Food Preservation & Waste Reduction: Transition from field to kitchen to learn sustainable preservation techniques like fermentation, dehydration, and pressure canning. This pillar emphasizes gut health and "upcycled" food systems to minimize waste and ensure year-round nutrition.
  • Resilient Systems & Material Reuse: Learn to implement closed-loop waste cycles by repurposing farm "waste" into valuable resources. Key projects include building biochar retorts from salvaged materials and designing water-wise irrigation systems that reuse rainwater for greenhouse irrigation.
